Description
Richenda, daughter and heiress of Humphrey of Berkeley and Agatha his wife, in the year 1245, being in the free power of her widowhood, has demitted at perpetual ferme to Arbroath Abbey, certain lands that she had in the parish of Conveth in the Mearns (Laurencekirk, KCD), namely, the lordship of Conveth, the land of ‘Halletun’, and the land called Scotston, and that piece of land that she had given to Roger Wyrfauch, and that oxgang of land next to the Mill of Conveth and next to ‘Lother’, which she gave to the sacristan of Arbroath to provide for the lighting before the altar of St Mary, holding in perpetuity by their right bounds and with all just pertinents, as freely and quietly as William, king of Scotland, gave them to Humphrey of Berkeley her father, for an annual render of 20s for all secular service and demand, namely, half at Pentecost and half at Martinmas, and responding for the forinsec of the lord king in service and aids.
