Description
Henry of Graham son of Peter of Graham has given, granted, and by this his charter established, to Newbattle Abbey, the land of ‘Balnebuch’ (MLO) as the burn falls into the Esk, which his father Peter gave to the monks and by his charter established, free and quit from all services, assises and gelds and all secular exaction.

Not in papal confirmation of Alexander III (_Newbattle Reg._, C.O., no. 28) × papal confirmation of Innocent III (_Newbattle Reg._, no. 223). Note that Alexander de St Martin witnesses but is not called sheriff. The witness lists and internal details show that these two charter were not written at the same time.
