Document 3/470/1 (Neville, Strathearn, Add. Chrs., no. 21)

Description
Theobald son of William son of Clement has given, granted, and by this his charter established to Inchaffray Abbey in pure and perpetual alms one toft, six perches long and six wide with two acres in his villa of Pitlandie (PER), namely in the field called ‘Fitheleres flat’ and with common pasture for eight cows and 60 sheep and two horses and with all other common easements of the same villa, free and quit from all burden and exaction and secular service. This donation is made with the consent of her most serene lord Robert, earl of Strathearn.
Firm date
August 1234 X August 1244
Dating Notes
Inchaff. Chrs., no. 61, where Master Christian apparently does not yet have the benefice of the church of Monzie (‘Mugheda’) (see Watt, Graduates, 522) × death of Earl Robert (first attestation of his successor). Note that Brice of Dunning does not witness this charter, agreeing with Neville’s statement that he left the earl’s inner circle in 1234.
