John son of Michael of Methil has given, granted and by this his charter established to Melrose Abbey his whole land of Penshiel (ELO), in pure and perpetual alms. He and his heirs will support and warrant all the aforesaid land of the said monks with all its liberties and just pertinents against all men, except the land which he gave to the monks of May and except that land which he granted to Henry Little and his heirs by their correct bounds in the territory of Penshiel. The monks of Melrose will hold and have all the aforesaid land from him and his heirs, free and quit from all service, custom, exaction and demand in perpetuity.
