Description
Geoffrey son of Geoffrey (of Clifton) has given, granted and made firm by this his charter to Melrose Abbey, in free pure and perpetual alms, half of all the land which he held in the feu of Clifton (ROX) which they recognized as his right, by stated bounds, free and quit from all forinsec and private service, custom, suit of court and all exaction and secular demand. And he and his heirs will support and warrant the aforesaid with all its pertinents with the aforesaid bounds to the monks in perpetuity against all men and women and will defend [them] from all secular service [owed] towards the lord king of Scotland.
