Edward son of Peter of Restalrig has given and made firm by this his charter to the church of St Mary at Newbattle and the brethren there half of Mount Lothian (MLO) and a toft in Leith in perpetual alms, free and quit from all exaction and custom.

(_RRS_, ii, no. 61; 1165×73), perhaps after attestation of Hervey as sheriff in agreement of 1170 (_SHR_, 30 [1951], 44). Also confirmed in papal confirmation of Alexander III (_Newb. Reg._, C.O. no. 28)
