Description
John son of Bertram of East Reston, for the health of his soul and his ancestors' and successors', has granted, given, and made firm by this his present charter to St Ebbe, the prior and the convent of Coldingham, in pure, free, and perpetual alms, that toft and croft that lies between his land on one side, and the toft of Elias son of Roger on the other; the said prior and monks to hold and have quietly, purely, and perpetually, from every work, service, suit of court, aid, relief, custom, secular exaction, and other demands that could be made by any mortal of the said prior and monks and their men etc., excepting only 1 lb of wax to the sacristan of Coldingham yearly at the Nativity of the Lord; and he and his heirs shall warrant the toft and croft, etc.
