Document 3/386/12 (Newb. Reg., no. 89)

Description
Adam Malherbe, lord of Morham, has given and granted, and by this his present charter established, to Newbattle Abbey that piece of land on the western side of his grange of Bearford (ELO), which fell to him by hereditary right, which lies on the south side of the burn next to the grange, in pure and perpetual alms, free of all service, custom and secular demand. He also grants that they may build their mill-pond on his land: if the pond falls apart in the place where they first built it by his license, they do not have the right to build it somewhere else on his land, without his license or that of his heirs.
