Description
Henry ‘Tendeman’, merchant of Leith, and Matilda his wife, for their souls and for the soul of Matilda called ‘Monache’, as well as for the souls of Richard called ‘Monachi’ and Sir Baldred, late rector of the church of Restalrig, has given, granted and by this his charter established to Newbattle Abbey that land in Edinburgh (MLO) next to the road which goes to Leith (MLO), on the western side of the road, having two pieces on the front [i.e., on the road], with houses sited there, and with an adjacent croft, in perpetual alms, making ‘ground-rent’ [solum’o] to the lord king and to the burgh of Edinburgh, which it is customary to make for that land. The seals of Henry Tendeman and the community of Edinburgh are attached.
