Herbert of Maxwell, knight, has given, granted, and by this his present charter established, to Paisley Abbey in free, pure and perpetual alms, and quit of all secular service and demand, 8 ½ acres and 28 perches of land in Newton Mearns (RNF), which he caused to be measured, by stated bounds, excepting the land of the house of Torphichen (Knights Hospitallers)
