Description: Duncan of Swanston and Mariota his spouse, for the welfare of the lord King Alexander [II], king of Scotland, and of Lady Joan, the queen, and of their heirs, and for the souls of the lord king William and others, have given, granted, and by this their charter established to Soutra Hospital in pure and perpetual alms, in their territory of Swanston (MLO), 10 ½ acres , namely, one toft with 1 ½ acres next to White Hill (?); and nine measured acres in the cultivated fields called ‘Halaw’ and bothies in the northern part, with meadows, and common pasture and easements for two horses, ten plough animals and 60 sheep, and common pasture for their men staying on the land, holding in free and perpetual alms, free and quit from all secular service, custom or demand.
