Fulk de Soules has granted and by this his present charter established to Newbattle Abbey one ploughgate of land and five acres in the villa of Gilmerton (MLO), which Ranulf de Soules son of William de Soules gave in exchange for that ploughgate which Ranulf de Soules his uncle, butler of the king of Scots, had given, in perpetual alms. He also grants them and establishes right of free and reasonable entrance and exit without the disturbance of his sheep and other animals, from one of their lands into another. He grants and establishes this in perpetual alms, free and quit from all services and assises and gelds and from all secular exaction.
