Description
Gervase, abbot of Newbattle, by the common consent of his convent, and also the assent of William, abbot of Melrose, has ordained and by the tenor of the present charter granted to the infirm monks of his house those three marks annual return which he used to annually receive from Sir William Bisset of Mertoun and his heirs for a certain land in the tenement of Mertoun (BWK), conveyed by Resum son of Robert, to his monastery, which three marks annual return he entrusted to the disposition of the prior and infirm, whomever they shall be at the time, for the use of the infirm and the restitution of debts to be paid, and not to be converted for the use of others.
