Description
Pope Nicholas IV addresses the abbot and convent of Newbattle and states that since it was made known in the pope’s presence that they and their predecessors, whoever they may have been at the time, may not have used certain privileges and indulgences through their simplicity and ignorance in previous times, [which were] granted to their monastery by the pope’s predecessors, Nicholas grants to the monks, by the authority of the present [charter], the ability to be make use the same privileges and indulgences in posterity and states that they may not be repealed by prescription or any legate.
