Document 1/53/28 (RRS, v, no. 22)
- Description
- Robert, king of Scots, addresses the provosts and bailies of the burgh of Crail and states because he agrees, through the inspection of certain charters of the abbot and convent of Arbroath, that burgesses of their villa of Arbroath (ANG) shall be free from every toll throughout the whole kingdom, and because he understands that particular burgesses, are troubled by the provosts and their ministers of Crail concerning a toll, he firmly restrains the provosts lest they trouble the burgesses or compel them to render any toll against the form and tenor of their charters. And if any trouble concerning the toll may have incurred, he wishes and mandates that the provosts should relax trouble by consideration the present brieve, and the provosts should permit the burgesses to make use of [the burgh] freely, according to their right.
