Description
John of Graham, the knight, son and heir of Sir Nicholas of Graham, lord of Abercorn and Westerkirk, for the salvation of his souls and his ancestors and successors, has given, granted and by this his present charter established to Melrose Abbey advowson or right of patronage of the church of Westerkirk (DMF) of the diocese of Glasgow, with its lands, etc., and anything belonging to him by hereditary right or some other title in the lands of the monks in Eskdale (DMF), as his previously produced charter carries and testifies in it. Advowson or patronage of the church is to be held and had by the monks and their successors from him and his heirs in free, pure and perpetual alms.
