Description
Robert, king of Scots, has given, granted and by this his present charter established to his beloved and faithful, Adam de la Chambre, all the land which formerly belonged to Emma Reed, lying in the villa of Moffat (DMF) within Annandale, with the forelands of the villa of Moffat. Numerous freedoms are specified including freedom from multure in the mill of Moffet and freedom from toll within Annandale and carriages, etc. Additionally, he grants to Adam, his heirs and his assignees one toft whereever they wish to build and inhabit one in the commons of Moffat, along with the nearest adjacent acre and pasture for their animals in accordance with their will. If it should be requested, they are to render one penny at the feast of Pentecost at the church of the parish of Moffat for all other service, secular exaction or demand. The king promises warrandice.
