Description
William Wallace, the knight, guardian of the kingdom of Scotland, and leader of the army of the same, in the name of Lord John, king of the Scots, by the consent of the community of the kingdom, states that he, by the consent and assent of the magnates of the kingdom, has given, granted, and also established the donation and grant of the present charter, to Alexander called Scrymgeour six mark-lands in the territory of Dundee (FIF), viz.: that land which is called Great Field, near the villa of Dundee to the north, with those acres in the field to the west which was belonging to the royal portion near the villa of Dundee to the west, and additionally the meadow of the king in the territory of Dundee, and additionally the office of constable of the castle of Dundee, with its pertinents, freedoms, and easements, without any reservation, for homage to be made to king and his heirs, or his successors, and faithful service and aid to kingdom, and he is to carry the banner of the king in the army from the time of the present agreement. It is to be held and had by Alexander and his heirs from [William's] lord, the king and his heirs, or successors, and he is to annually provide to the king and his heirs the service that pertains to the office of constable in return for everything which he and his heirs will be able to extract from the aforesaid in the future.
