Description
W[illiam] and R[obert], bishops of St Andrews and Glasgow, John Comyn and James Stewart of Scotland, and Brian fitz Alan, Guardians of the realm of Scotland established by lord Edward, king of England, write to Sir Alexander de Balliol, chamberlain of the same realm of Scotland, noting that because, according to a mandate of their said above-named king, Sir Walter de Curry was made keeper of the castles of Wigtown, Kirkcudbright and Dumfries, in the name of their said king, they command and instruct Balliol to pay the expenses of those who have custody of the said castles from the day of their invasion up to the day Sir Walter [had] custody, according to the assignation of the said king. From the day Sir Walter took custody he should pay to him 40 marks for his expenses, according to the same assignation, receiving from the same his letters of receipt of the money paid.
