- Description
- Pope Boniface VIII addresses the abbot and convent of Paisley and states that, on behalf of them, it was purported in his presence that some clerks and laymen because of certain crooked customs, presume to pledge, invade and detain some animals and goods of the monks and lay-brothers of Paisley. The pope inhibits, by the authority of the present [charter], lest on the occasion of the said customs these individuals should presume to inflict annoyance, and additionally to occupy, to pledge, to invade, or to detain, in whatever way, the monks’ goods or rights. Anyone who goes against the aforesaid will face the indignation of God and the apostles Peter and Paul.
