Description
William of Moray, lord of Bothwell, pantler of Scotland, stated that he is to be held and firmly obliged to the dean and chapter of Glasgow for 100 marks of sterling, for the expenses accrued by the dean and chapter in a dispute between William and the chapter concerning the church of Smailholm (BWK), [which was] formerly advanced by the ordinance of Robert, bishop of Glasgow, [and] valued by William’s consent. The sum is to be rendered to the dean and chapter at Glasgow within five years at the following times, viz.: ten marks at the feast of Pentecost in the year 1293 and another ten marks at the feast of St Martin in winter nearest following, and it should be rendered as such for five years until the 100 marks are fully paid. Penalties are stipulated for failure of payment, including ecclesiastical censure.
