Ralph de Lascelles, knight, since he has come to the faith and friendship of his dear lord, the lord Edward, king of England, lord of Ireland, and duke of Aquitaine, promises for himself and his heirs that he will serve him well and loyally against all mortal men, particularly John de Balliol, who was king of Scotland, and all his helpers and accomplices in the kingdom of Scotland, etc.
