Document 2/49/1 (Reg. Romeyn, ii, no. 1392b)

Description
Godfrey, archdeacon of Whithorn writes to J[ohn], [archbishop of York] and the prior and convent of Whithorn noting that it is well known that in the diocese, he and his predecessors had and have jurisdiction and power throughout the said diocese, just as all other archdeacons in England and Scotland during vacancies of sees. It should be seen by anyone with reasonable mind that as he survived after the death of the bishop of Whithorn that jurisdiction of the vacant see belonged to him. He warns the prior and convent not to impede this jurisdiction.
