Description
Duncan Bretnach, and Richard of Kinnaird, of the county of Fife, since they have come to the faith and the will of the most noble prince, their dear lord, the lord Edward, by the grace of God king of England etc.; they promise for themselves and their heirs that they will serve him well and loyally against all men; and each has done homage to his lord the aforesaid king of England, and become his liege man of life and limb; and the king received the homage from the lands with which they were then seised, saving his right and that of others, and excepting the lands which John de Balliol, who was king of Scotland, gave them after King Edward had handed over the kingdom of Scotland to him, and excepting also the ones of which King Edward was seised before they had entered his peace; and each has performed fealty to their lord the king; and they have sealed these letters patent with their seals.
