Description
Osbern Chamberlain writes to his lord the king [Edward I] that whereas on the first establishment of the villa of Berwick-on-Tweed, he undertook to hold by a charter of the king the houses which belonged to William of Scotland upon the Ness, at the rent of 30d. per year, and was seised thereof for years and days, the persons who are there now on the part of the king have ousted him and given the said houses to one Simon le Especer at the rent of 6d. yearly, to the damage of the king and disinheritance of Osbern, who prays that he may recover his estate, paying to the king the 30d. yearly as he did before.
