Document 2/96/7 (Stevenson, Docs., ii, no. 500)

Description
To the lords of the council of their lord the king, the abbot and convent of Jedburgh and Sir Ivo of Aldborough show that they have understood that the constable of Jedburgh has told the king that he cannot keep his castle of Jedburgh without the forest of the same place. Therefore, they have offered to the king to undertake the custody of the castle by a sufficient bachelor, partly at the charges of the king and partly at their own, that is 5 marks each year until the end of five years; and to repair the houses of the castle at the cost of the king and partly at their own [cost], that is, 5 marks per yearly until the aforesaid term, so that the king shall thank them for it.
