Document 2/18/1 (Stevenson, Docs., ii, no. 568)

Description
Walter, bishop of Chester, treasurer of his lord the king, writes to Sir Robert Hayrun and Sir John of Weston, clerks, dwelling at Berwick-upon-Tweed, in the service of the king. Whereas it has been agreed between Sir Robert de Hastang, constable of Roxburgh, and himself that whenever he shall need aid and reinforcement of his guard for the walls which he has now commenced at Roxburgh and for the defence of the town, he shall have 100 foot soldiers at the charges of the king to do this. He commands the clerks that whensoever Robert Hastang notifies them of this they let him have the foot soldiers at the king’s wages for two weeks, or three, according to his need.
