Description
Robert Hastang writes to his lord, the king of England, noting the king’s letters which reached him on 13 September to the effect that he should watch the return of Sir John de Soules and his other enemies of Scotland and […] with the aid of Sir Alexander de Balliol, Sir Walter de Huntercombe, Sir Hugh de Audley, Sir Richard, Robert’s brother, and the sheriff of Peebles with the troops of his bailiwick, Robert should do Sir John the worst that he could. Robert had sent spies to ascertain their condition and plan. He asked the above men by letters and word of mouth to prepare as many troops as they could.
