Description
Edward, king of England, lord of Ireland and duke of Aquitaine writes to the sheriff of Roxburgh, noting that he has received into his peace, William de Chartres, who had been against him in the war in Scotland. Wishing to certify what lands and tenements within his bailiwick have descended to William by succession of heritage and if his ancestors were in the king’s fealty on the say of their decease, and how and by what service the lands are held, etc.; he commands him to inquiry into these things.
