- The [abbot] of Jedburgh complains to the king that on the eve of St James in the xx[…] year of his reign […] of Hardegille, Walter of Hardegille, Richard of Creshoppe, Thomas of Whelpdale [and others] dwelling in the Forest Nicol in Cumberland […] entered the forest of Jedburgh [and carried off …] oxen and cows and 40 horses, to the value of £100, whereof he prays remedy [… being] at the king’s peace, as the guardian’s record proves.
