Description
1) John, bishop of Carlisle, complains that after he took possession of the lands of Davy Ovyot in Scotland, given by the king to the bishops and church of Carlisle, Sir John Seagrave entered on them. Begs the king to restore him in sasine. 2) Robert Bruce complains that he has been kept out of his lands of Annandale and Lochmaben castle for four years, and still is, to his loss and great grievance, and undeservedly. Begs he may have them that he may serve the king and hold of him on this march as his neighbours do. If not better treated than hitherto, he can neither borrow nor live without making great ‘meschef’. 3) Sir Hugh of Rydale to whom the king gave £40 of land in Scotland for his service there in all his wars ‘les queux il ad ore redonee’, shows how he lost his bay horse in the king’s company in Galloway which cost him £7, and at Falkirk his black ‘bai baucan’ horse with four white feet, and begs allowance for these and his arrears of pay due in Sir Ralph [de Manton], the cofferer’s time, also £6 16s. in this last war in Scotland.
