Description
Robert, king of Scots, has given his beloved and faithful Humphrey of Kirkpatrick for his homage and service the land of Torthorwald (DMF) with its whole demesne and vill, multures and three husbandlands of the vill of Roucan (DMF), namely, the land of Gilmorduf (Gilla Muire Dub), the land of John son of Colman, and the land of Robert Scot, with the multures and mill of the vill of Roucan, with free entry and exit to the mill; holding in feu and heritage, with hawking, fishing, and hunting, in free barony, with ordeal pit and gallows, sake and soke, toll, team, and infangenthef, performing the service of one archer and three suits annually at his sheriffdom court of Dumfries at the three chief pleas. He grants that they may hold this in free warren in perpetuity. No one may hawk, hunt, or fish without the special licence of Humphrey on penalty of the king's full forfeiture.
