Document 1/53/269 (RRS, v, no. 241)

Description
Robert, king of Scots, to his chancellor, Bernard abbot of Arbroath, noting that an inquest made by the sheriff and baillies of Forfar at the king's last parliament at Scone determined that Arbroath abbey was infefted by the grant and confirmation of the late Alexander earl of Buchan of an annual rent of 13s 4d from the tenement of Finavon (ANG) in pure and perpetual alms in the times of his predecessors the kings of Scots, namely King Alexander [II] son of King William and King Alexander [III], and that the abbey was in full possession of the said annual rent in the times of the aforesaid kings and that John Comyn earl of Buchan unjustly withheld the said annual rent from them; the king commands him to enforce the tenor of the retour which he transmits to the chancellor.
