Ralph Niger, dean of Lothian (fl.1214×27-35×38)

Biography
Watt and Murray, Fasti, 413: Ralph (Radulf) Niger occurs as dean of Lothian 1211×27, probably 1225×27, in 1227×28, on 15 January 1229 and in 1214×40, probably 1231×40. He is once called 'R. dean of Liston', though this might have been 'Robert de Liston' found on 27 December 1237 and who was a chaplain of Bishop Malveisin of St Andrews and held the church of Kirkliston. Watt, Graduates, 429-30: As Master occurs among the clerks in the familia of Bishop Roger of St Andrews, 1189×94, occurring until 1200×July 1202. He probably remained in the _familia_ at St Andrews under Bishop Malveisin, though he is not found in the _familia_ after 1203×6. A Radulf Niger appears as dean of Christianity of Lothian 1 July 1212×, probably 1214× and may be the same man, or his son. This Radulf, dean, appears 1225×27 until the 1230s. There is also an earlier Radulf Niger, master, who was thought to have been in Paris in the 1160s and lived until July 1205 at least.
