Gilbert de Umfraville, earl of Angus (d.1307)

Biography
Gilbert (III) was the son of Gilbert (II) de Umfraville (d.1245) and Matilda, his wife, heiress of the earldom of Angus. Gilbert (II) inherited it by right of his wife, which passed to their son, Gilbert, upon the elder Gilbert's death. Gilbert (III) also inherited the English lordships of Prudhoe and Redesdale from his father. He held Dundee and Forfar castles in Scotland as well as Redcastle. He married Elizabeth, third daughter of Alexander Comyn, earl of Buchan (d.1289) and his wife, Elizabeth de Quincy. With her, he had three sons: Gilbert, who married Margaret, daughter of Thomas de Clare, and died without heirs in 1303; Robert (d.1325), who succeeded his father as earl of Angus and married firstly Lucy, daughter of William of Kyme, and secondly Eleanor de Clare; and Thomas (d.c.1321). They also had one daughter, Ida, who married John Lisle. Gilbert (III), who died in 1307, and his wife are buried at Hexham Priory. http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/27988
