Robert of Edington, Master

Biography
Watt, Graduates, 174: Master Robert probably took his surname from Edington (BWK) though his name is frequently confused with that of his contemporary, Walter of Haddington. He is described as Master from the early 1190s and he may have studied at Paris, where in the 1180s he had deposited a library of personal books at the Abbey of St Victor. He was in the familia of Durham and appears as a witness to various episcopal acta dating 1189×95 and to priory charters dating 1191×94 to 1198×1201. Robert is not found after 1199×1201 and was presumably dead before circa 1221. He was given a benefice in the Durham diocese in 1195-96, presumably the church of Walkington, Yorkshire, which he held before circa 1221.
