William of Kilkenny, master, bishop of Ely (d.1256)

Biography
Watt, Graduates, 298: William was perhaps an Irishman, graduate of Oxford, and English royal clerk who was also bishop of Ely (1254-56). He died on 21 September 1256. He was a clerk in the service of Alan, lord of Galloway. He was later chancellor of Kilkenny and was elected to the see of Ossory (Ireland) in 1231. He may have held the church of Largs (AYR) in Scotland.
