John, king of England (d.1216)

Biography
John was born at Oxford on 24 December 1167, the youngest son of Henry II, king of England (d.1189) and Eleanor of Aquitaine (d.1204), ex-wife of Louis VII of France. He had three brothers, Henry (d.1183), Richard (d.1199), and Geoffrey (d.1186). He married Isabella (d.1217), daughter of William, earl of Gloucester, in 1189, a marriage which was annulled shortly after he became king in 1199. He married secondly Isabella of Angoulême (d.1246), daughter of Audemar, count of Angoulême. With his second wife, he had five children: Henry III (d.1272); Richard, earl of Cornwall (d.1272); Joan (d.1237), who married Alexander II of Scotland; Eleanor (d.1275), who married William Marshal, earl of Pembroke, followed by Simon de Montfort; and Isabella (d.1241), consort of Emperor Frederick II. He had at least one illegitimate child, Joan (d.1237), who was married to Llywelyn ab Iorwerth. John died at Newark on the night of 18/19 October 1216 from dysentery, and was buried at Worcester Cathedral. http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/14841
