Description
David, king of Scots, has given his beloved and faithful Adam of Urquhart for his faithful service the whole sheriffdom of Cromarty (ROS) with court and office of sheriff, which his beloved relative William, earl of Ross, and Richard Mowat chaplain, son and heir of William Mowat knight preserved through diverse infeftments by gift of his progenitors; which the persona (i.e., Richard Mowat) resigned by staff and baton as his letter of resignation attests; holding with inhabitants, neyfs and freeholders, as freely as his relative William Mowat held it, for suit at his justiciar court of Inverness and making Scottish service for all custom, service, or aid.
