Description
David, king of Scots, to his justiciar of Lothian and other officers; noting that he has granted to his beloved chaplains the abbot and convent of the monastery of Melrose all their lands in the precinct and around their monastery by there assigned marches and bounds in free regality perpetually, with all the liberties pertaining to regailty, as much in lands and profits as in the men on the said lands, serfs and dwellers, as his charter fully attests. The king strictly prohibits his justiciar from interfering with these serfs and dwellers (incolis) in their administration, in suits, citations, pledges, indictments and attachments to his pleas and no his justiciar ayre outwith the regality.
