Description
David, king of Scots, to his faithful men George of Abernethy, John of Edmonstone, knights, and Thomas of Irvine, his justiciars, commanding them to hold make a recognition by good and faithful and elder men of the neighbourhood, according to the assize of the land, if the late William Douglas of Liddesdale, knight, uncle of James Douglas knight, died vested and saised in the lands of the barony of Kilbucho and Newlands in the sheriffdom of Peebles, except almslands, lands of freeholders, annual renders, and dotage of women; and if James is the legitimate and nearest heir of the late William his uncle, and if Roger of Carruthers and Isabel his spouse has unjustly detained the said lands by right of the spouse.
