Description
Duncan, son of Gilbert son of Fergus, for Melrose Abbey; he has granted and given, and made firm by this his charter to the church of St Mary at Melrose, the land of Maybole-beg (AYR), for the souls of his lords, King David and King Malcolm, and Earl Henry; and for the salvation of his lord King William, and of Earl David his brother, and of Earl Duncan; and for his own salvation and the souls of his father and mother, and all his ancestors and successors; in free and pure and perpetual alms; he has also granted and given, and by this his charter has confirmed, to Melrose Abbey the whole of the land of Beoch (AYR) in free, pure and perpetual alms; the monks shall nevertheless give him each year 2 marks as payment for Beoch.
