Description
Patrick, earl of Dunbar, for Melrose Abbey; by consent of Sir Patrick his son and heir, has sold whole of stud (equicium) that he had in feu of Lauder on feast of death of John the Baptist (29 August), 1247. He has also granted and quitclaimed by consent of Sir P[atrick] his son that neither he nor his heirs nor anyone of his name shall in future ever have or demand any claim in law or common right to stud or to feeding or pasturage for any other animal in lands and pastures which they hold or possess. For his stud and for his grant and quitclaim abbot and convent of Melrose Abbey have given him 100 marks, and 20 marks to Sir Patrick his son for his confirmation, payment for these now having been made in full to them both.
