Description
Roger de Quincy, earl of Winchester, constable of Scotland, has given, granted, and by this his present charter established, to Balmerino Abbey, in perpetuity, in free, pure and perpetual alms, in his marsh of Swanliemire (or Swans Mire, now drained, in Forgan parish, FIF), a certain part of his peatery, by stated bounds, to the place where the abbot of Balmerino, by the earl’s precept, fastened a stake in the presence of Peter Basset, then constable of Leuchars, Roger ‘Abboth’, his steward, William ‘Stransune’ and Alan ‘Surale’. He also wills that the abbot and convent of Balmerino shall have the said peatery by the said boundaries, with uses and easements, and free entrance and exit through his lands and his men’s lands to carry their peats as they see most expedient. And they should have, hold and possess perpetual right to the aforesaid peatery.
