Document 2/131/6 (Glas. Reg., no. 23)
- Description
- Pope Alexander III writes to Dean S[alomon] and the chapter of Glasgow noting that he has accepted their decision to use the prebend of a dead canon for a year, either to help the poor or to liquidate the deceased’s legitimate debts, and thus has established this by his authority. No one is permitted to impose new duties or customs on Salomon and his [canons] or on those who occupy their land, and this territory should retain the immunity and liberty which it is known to have had from the time of King David. All the venerable customs which David and John, formerly bishop of Glasgow, introduced in this church should remain in effect.
