Document 2/139/34 (Dryb. Lib., no. 37A)

Description
Pope Honorius III writes to the bishop of Brechin, the prior of Restenneth and the dean of Forfar, noting that he has accepted a complaint by William, rector of the church of Gullane (ELO), that the prioress and nuns of South Berwick and others of the diocese of St Andrews have caused injury to the chapel of Dirleton, the teinds and other things belonging by right to the church of Gullane. He thus commands them to call together the parties, hear the case, and cause what is decreed to be observed firmly by ecclesiastical censure. If the witnesses named shall have withdrawn out of favour, hatred or fear, they shall compel them by a similar stricture. If all of them cannot take part in carrying this out, let the bishop and another one of them do it.
