- Description
- Pope Gregory IX writes to the bishops of Glasgow, Caithness, and Brechin, noting that he has not admitted the postulation made by the bishop of Dunkeld to the vacant church of St Andrews; the prior and convent of the same church have elected, by licence of the king of Scotland, Master David of Bernham, subdeacon, chamberlain of the king. He thus commands them to enquire into the election because, of the three proctors sent to the pope, one is dead, another detained by sickness, and only Master Richard Vairement, secular canon, the king’s proctor, remains. If the election is canonical, they should establish it and consecrate him.
