- Pope Martin IV writes to the bishops of Dunblane and Argyll, on the petition of the nobleman Hugh of Abernethy, of the diocese of Dunblane, who attested that he had, in ignorance, taken in marriage the noblewoman Mary as his wife, related to him in the fourth degree of kinship, and had several sons by her, and now prayed the pope would grant him a dispensation to remain in the same marriage, seeing that a separation would cause much loss of life and many scandals. The above bishops are commissioned to grant the dispensation, legitimating the offspring, if the statements of the petition are found to be true.
