- Description
- Robert de Brus has given, and by his charter established, to Melrose Abbey, in pure and perpetual alms that part of land which they hold in the territory of Whitton (ROX), towards the grange of Hownam by stated marches. He gives this with all his rights and all claims, free and quit from all aids and from all service, custom and exaction.

This charter probably dates to soon after the marriage of Robert (III) de Brus to Isabella. The name of ‘R., archdeacon’ may be a mistake for Richard of Hassendean, dean of Christianity of Teviotdale. Robert (III)’s death date is marked by Isabella, his widow’s marriage to Robert de Ros.
