Description
An agreement is made between the canons of Jedburgh and the canons of Dryburgh in order that sincere peace and confraternity [is made] between them to be held inviolably; the brothers of these churches shall stand firm in whatever trouble, reign, mutual counsel and assistance they should need so much as they can declare affection and can attend to their skills and so that this remains between them perpetually, it is agreed by the abbots and by the permission of all the chapter of both convents, that the canons of Jedburgh they hold the church of (Long)Newton (ROX) free from all complaint and the canons of Dryburgh hold the church of Lessudden (ROX) free from all complaint and all the successors of both sides imposing silence lest anyone presumes to provoke complaint. And for this peace and fraternity, the abbot and convent of Dryburgh shall pay yearly 2 marks to the canons of Jedburgh from his chamber, one at Martinmas and one at Pentecost.
